Where can I go for nice furniture? Where do you usually get your furniture? These are probably the most frequently asked questions interior designers hear (besides “Can you give me a friendly price for designing my space?”) We might follow it up with questions to find out your style, purpose, and budget, but we usually can’t help recommending our personal favorites! Let me tell you about the store I keep visiting whenever I’m in Uptown Mall in BGC.
Design Story is a furniture & lifestyle store that carries two luxury brands Hay and Stellar Works. HAY is a modern Danish brand that produces furniture, accessories, lighting and rugs. It’s popular and appeals to many for its versatility for homes and offices. Stellar Works is a contemporary brand that focuses on craftsmanship and style traditions from around the globe.
Seen above is a popular low-type L-shaped sofa from HAY. I would recommend this to most clients who love clean lines but want to keep their space interesting and playful. I see it in a new young professional’s apartment, a young family’s living room or a den.
If you’ve always loved Scandinavian interiors, you’ll love HAY for its distinct Scandi furniture pieces and accessories available in trendy colorways.
It’s rare for furniture stores to provide options for more than 2 colors which is why it was surprising to find out that some HAY chairs were highly-customizable. You can choose the color of the base of the chair, the type of wood, the kind of legs, upholstered or not, and the fabric to be used for upholstered seating! You will have to wait a couple of months, but they can deliver faster depending on your chosen design.
HAY also has the cutest home accessories and office supplies. Items like colorful geometric trays, metallic multicolored hooks, vases and glass objects can give character to your space.
I’m definitely going back to get one of these pillows. I find the prints really unique, plus I just love collecting pillows for my room.
This was one of my favorite objects in HAY. It’s a wall-mounted organizer that comes in different colors. You can also get these different attachments like a mirror, additional shelves and a pen/brush holder. Any room would instantly be more interesting with a piece like this.
Stellar Works has great attention to craftsmanship and detail. Most of the pieces have a combination of different hardware such as steel and brass with wooden handles and legs.
One of my favorite pieces is this standing mirror console with its own shelf. I just find the raw finished brass frame incredibly beautiful paired with the matte black steel body. Adding the wood accent lessens the boldness of its geometric structure. These details were so finely thought out that you’ll be excited to take home any piece from their collection.
It also has this masculine appeal because of the black wood and leather combination which pairs well with the walnut finish. I’d recommend these pieces for bachelor pads or spaces with a mid-century aesthetic.
You can visit Design Story at 3/F Uptown Mall, Bonifacio Global City and Casabella in MDI Corporate Center, BGC and The Alley at Karrivin Plaza, Pasong Tamo Ext. to see all of their pieces.
